The Lockheed U-2 can be considered one of the most famous high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft in aviation history. He is without a doubt a symbol of the Cold War. The project was approved in the early fifties, and the first flight took place in 1955. The U-2 featured a large surface area and wingspan. Its aerodynamic design allowed it to operate at an altitude of 70,000 feet (more than 21,000 meters) and effectively conduct reconnaissance operations thanks to its then-advanced photo and video systems. The U-2 was first used by the CIA. and then by US Air Force flight directorates.
