The first MAZ-537 prototypes were built in 1958, and serial production began in 1960. The new car had a 525 hp engine. at 2100 rpm, which was a very high indicator for that time, even armored vehicles and tanks had less hp. many significant changes to the fuel supply system, cooling system and lubrication, which led to the need for a complete redesign of the engine compartment cover and louvers. Almost all components of the frame and chassis have been strengthened, and the total weight has also increased to 21.6 tons (gross total weight 87 tons), which allows you to tow a load weighing up to 50 tons.
