Republic P-47 Thunderbolt Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was a World War II fighter-bomber produced from 1941 to 1945, the largest single-engine fighter of those times. The main armament is eight large-caliber (12.7 mm) machine guns, being used as a fighter-bomber, it had a bomb load of 1133 kilograms. When fully loaded, the P-47 weighed up to eight tons, making it one of the heaviest fighters of the war. The P-47 was developed from the powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engine, which was also used in the US Navy and US Marine Corps Grumman F6F Hellcat and Vought F4U Corsair fighters.
